Celebrating a Milestone at KU: Installtec’s Role in the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium Expansion

We’re proud to announce that Installtec has successfully completed our scope of work on the latest phase of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas. As part of KU’s ambitious new Gateway District, we’ve been honored to contribute to the reconstruction of the west side, the north end zone, and the new conference center.

Our Scope of Work

For this project, our team at Installtec delivered a comprehensive range of solutions:

Spray Foam Insulation: We installed closed-cell spray foam insulation across the underside of the main concourse, ensuring top-tier thermal performance and a robust air seal.
Intumescent and Thermal Coatings: We protected exposed spray foam areas using DC315 intumescent coatings in critical zones and applied Ura-K thermal and acoustic finishes where needed to enhance safety and sound control.
K-13 Acoustic Finishes: In club and lounge areas, we applied K-13 spray acoustic finishes to help reduce noise transmission, creating a more comfortable environment for fans and visitors.
Fireproofing: Our team applied standard cementitious fireproofing to the stadium’s structural frame, while also using intumescent coatings for exposed structural elements, finishing them with a protective top seal.

Overcoming Challenges Together

This project wasn’t without its hurdles. The tight schedule required us to adapt quickly to changing design requirements and to perform extensive patching and re-application without extra time on the clock. Weather conditions also threw a curveball our way, especially when completing the exterior intumescent work on the light columns. Despite these obstacles, our collaboration with Turner Construction and our manufacturing partners—Isolatek, NCFI, and International Cellulose Corporation—made it all possible.
